Gibson Custom Shop Ace Frehley "Budokan" Aged Les Paul Electric Guitar Heritage Cherry Sunburst
In celebration of Ace Frehley’s unquestionable status as a rock icon, and the epitome of glam-rock stardom that KISS represented at this crystalline moment in time in 1977, Gibson Custom proudly announces the release of the Ace Frehley “Budokan” Les Paul Custom, produced in a strictly Limited Edition of 100 hand-aged guitars. Offering everything you’ve come to expect from Gibson Custom’s artist replica guitars, the Ace Frehley “Budokan” Les Paul Custom is a painstaking recreation of Frehley’s modified Les Paul Custom, based on intimate examination of the instrument’s current condition.

This Les Paul has been created with close cooperation between Gibson Custom, Ace Frehley and the guitar’s current owner, Matt Swanson. Digital scanning technology was used to capture every minute detail of the actual guitar. In the image of the original Les Paul Custom, the guitar has a four-piece maple top glued to a mid-’70s “sandwich” body made from a middle and back section of solid mahogany joined by a thin maple veneer, with no chambering. The top is hand-sprayed in nitrocellulose to give it the same Heritage Cherry Sunburst finish as the original. The three-piece mahogany neck has been made made to match the original’s thin profile. Decorative elements include mother-of-pearl block fingerboard inlays, multi-ply body and headstock binding, mother-of-pearl Gibson headstock logo and split-diamond inlay, and a cream pickguard.

To match Ace’s original guitar, the Ace Frehley “Budokan” Les Paul Custom is loaded with three period-correct double-cream DiMarzio humbucking pickups—two PAF models in the neck and middle positions, and a Super Distortion in the bridge. And just like on Ace's guitar, the traditional 3-way toggle switch has been modified to only allow the use of the bridge pickup, allowing you to be able to accomplish one of Ace's most noted effects. The DiMarzio Super Distortion pickup offers searing lead tones and fat, chunky rhythm for the ultimate hard-rock performance. Hardware includes the classic pairing of chrome ABR-1 bridge and stopbar tailpiece, with Ace’s choice of Grover tuners with pearloid “banjo” buttons and Dunlop straplocks to keep the guitar securely strapped on through the wildest on-stage antics. In short, the Ace Frehley “Budokan” Les Paul Custom is the ultimate embodiment of mid-’70s arena-rock balls and bluster, and it’s available in strictly limited numbers.

The guitar includes a Gibson Custom hardshell case silkscreened with Ace’s signature, and a leather-bound COA.

Gibson Custom Shop Dickey Betts SG Standard VOS Electric Guitar Vintage Red
The twin-lead guitar attack of Dickey Betts and Duane Allman during their time playing together in the Allman Brothers Band is some of the best in blues and rock music history. To commemorate the duo, and the instrument behind their virtuosity, Gibson has released the "One Brother to Another" SG, a recreated of the 61/62 SG that Dickey Betts gave to Duane Allman to use as a guitar solely for slide playing. Dickey didn't want to wait for Duane to retune his Les Paul to open tunings during sets, so giving him the SG seemed like the solution for cutting down the wait time in between songs.

The guitar isn't just a good idea on paper, when you pick this instrument up you know its a player. The neck feels extremely thin and comfortable, the thin profile makes playing fast licks a breeze. The looks of the guitar are faithful to the original, down to the screw holes from replaced tuners, and plastic saddles in the bridge.

Gibson Custom Shop Marc Bolan Tribute Les Paul Electric Guitar VOS Bolan Chablis
In the late '60s and early '70s, Marc Bolan and his band T. Rex helped pioneer the Glam Rock era with their own unique look and sound. Combining hard rock riffs and pop melodies, T. Rex was like no other. Bolan's Les Paul was unlike any other as well. To commemorate the memory of Marc Bolan, the Gibson Custom Shop has recreated the Les Paul that Bolan himself customized to his own liking and style.

The Marc Bolan Les Paul is a combination of a '50s Les Paul body and '70s Les Paul Custom neck, giving the guitar its signature "mix n' match" look and feel. Bolan stripped the original finish off the body, creating his own transparent hue, known on this recreation as Bolan Chablis. When the original '50s neck of the guitar broke, Bolan had it replaced with one from a black '70s Custom, complete with ebony fretboard, block inlays, and split diamond headstock inlay. Gibson even made special uncovered Custom Buckers to recreate the sound of the original guitar, featuring slightly mismatched coils wound with accurate turns of 42 AWG Enamel-coated wire and Alnico III bar magnets. Produced in a strictly limited run, this guitar is number 20 out of 350.

This instrument is not just another cool limited edition signature model, but a unique-looking Les Paul with effortless playability. The color combination of a red-stained mahogany back with the black neck finish looks like no other Les Paul out there. The hardware stays true to the look of the original guitar as well, with a gold-plated aluminum stopbar tailpiece and nickel bridge. The thin '70s neck profile is very easy to move around on and the custom Buckers sound killer with great clarity and warmth.

Gibson Wes Montgomery Electric Guitar Sunset Glow
It's difficult to comprehend one guitar player having such a profound influence on any one musical genre, much less one as conspicuously diverse as jazz music. Yet in the span of just a few years in the late 1950s and early 1960s, jazz legend Wes Montgomery was able forge a body of work that is still referred to today as the most important and influential of any music ever recorded by a jazz artist. Montgomery's mastery of the guitar is well documented, and the enormous impact on his peers is recognized time and time again, from Pat Metheny to George Benson to Joe Satriani, all of whom claim Montgomery as the virtuoso who inspired them to reach new heights.
