The introduction of Gibson’s Les Paul in 1952 set a precedent on guitar craftsmanship but it would still undergo key modifications before the arrival of the Les Paul Standard. A major addition to the Les Paul was the addition of the Tune-O-Matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece in 1956 in place of the classic wraparound tailpiece. This design has remained a popular model through today with greats like John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters and BB King.
