Originally introduced in 1978, Gibson’s F-5L Mandolin, otherwise known as “The Fern,” is based on the early 1920s mandolin designs. Featuring a gorgeously ornate headstock and curled horn, the F-5L is as much a classic mandolin as it is a wonderful piece of art. The neck is a comfortable-playing figured Maple in a “V” shape, which makes chord shaping easy and the pearl dot inlays make it a breeze to find your way around the neck. Complete with a gold tailpiece and a gloss lacquer overcoat, the F-5L is proof that some things simply stand the test of time.
