The Martin Guitar Company has a rich heritage of acoustic guitar building, with some ground breaking developments over their history as well as some of the most rare and valuable stringed instruments. Martin pay homage to this legacy with the instruments in its Vintage and Authentic series guitars. These Martin guitars are among our favorites here at The Music Zoo, our wide selection of Vintage and Authentic guitars can be seen online at our website or in store at our New York location!
The Authentic Series was introduced by Martin in 2013 with four models and has expanded to many more since. With goal of making exact replicas of sought after vintage guitars, Martin took several instruments from the extensive museum they maintain at their Nazareth PA factory and had the guitars CAT scanned at the Smithsonian Institute. Striving to use the same construction techniques as when these guitars were built, the Martin Custom Shop began to utilize hide glue adhesive throughout the instrument and match the thin nitro cellulose finish of the originals. The addition of aging toner gives them the appearance of a guitar decades old. In 2015 Martin debuted the Vintage Tone System on the Authentic guitars, a process of torrefaction used on the soundboard to give the guitar the tone of an old and well aged instrument. The next major step in the evolution of the Authentic Series was the addition of a limited run of aged D-28 guitars based on a 1937 example. They have expanded the aged guitars to include a D-45S and a D-18. Historic models that have been offered include 000-30, OM-28, 000-42, D-1, and an OM-18.
