An OM guitar is a very versatile acoustic guitar, great for finger picking as well as being played with a flat pick. This body shape has comfortable bout width and depth, while the typically longer scale length gives addition volume and some added harmonics to the tone. These guitars are built with a variety of tone woods, including rosewood, mahogany, koa, walnut, and mostly have spruce sound boards. Many are offered with a cutaway and electronics.

The OM, or Orchestra Model, guitar was introduced by the Martin guitar company in the late 1920s to the early 1930s. The OM body shape came about by modifying the existing 000 body size to accept a 14 fret neck joint, the addition of a narrower 1 3/4" nut width, and ultimately a longer scale length. The flagship of the Orchestra Models is the OM-28, built with rosewood back & sides and a spruce top. The OM can generally be identified by the slightly smaller "tear drop" pickguard and may have a herringbone inlay along the perimater of the top of the guitar. The OM is also offered in the richly appoint OM-42 model, with abalone inlay throughout much of the guitar. The OM-45 Deluxe is one of the most rare and valuable vintage Martin guitars, alongside a custom OM-45 built for Roy Rogers in the 1930s. the om family also includes artist signatue models like John Mayer OMJM and Eric Clapton OM-ECHF
