Here's a preowned 2012 Gibson J-45 True Vintage acoustic/electric guitar in excellent condition with only a small blemish on the headstock back. It's vintage period-correct with its round shoulder dreadnought body shape that has aged binding all around and is constructed using an Adirondack spruce top with X-bracing, mahogany back and sides, a mahogany neck with a small "V" style neck profile and a rosewood fretboard with dot inlays, vintage-style tuners with plastic buttons, and a gorgeous Vintage Sunburst finish. Other details: a hand-crafted rosette around the soundhole, early Gibson script logo, a rosewood bridge, bone nut, a K&K mini pickup that was installed with no mods at all, and the early Gibson script logo. This great instrument has a full-balanced tone with a very warm low end.

Gretsch Custom Shop Masterbuilt Stephen Stern G6131 Relic Electric Guitar Natural
This Gretsch Custom Shop G6131 was personally built by Masterbuilder Stephen Stern, who gave it a truly great relic treatment. It's aged throughout, as evidenced by the tarnishing on the hardware and some light wear and dullness on the finish, all of which give this instrument a made-in-the '50s vibe and appearance, particularly with the Bigsby tailpiece.

Features include an ebony body with a maple top, and a maple neck with an ebony fretboard. Electronics include two very clear and powerful Filter'Trons with individual volume pots, a master volume pot, and three toggle switches that function as a tone selector, pickup selector, and standby switch. The tone switch options between a strong treble roll-off ("Deep") and subtle roll-off ("Shallow"). The bigsby tailpiece makes chords shimmer and twang, while left alone, you can absolutely hit some Malcolm-style crunch.

Martin Custom Shop CEO-7 Koa 14-Fret Acoustic Guitar Autumn Sunset Burst
This gorgeous custom-built Martin acoustic is based on the CEO-7 models that were designed and conceptualized by the company's CEO, Chris Martin IV. The big difference with this instrument and the typical CEO-7 is it's highly figured koa back and sides and an Adirondack spruce top with a striking Autumn Sunset Burst finish. It's a short-scale (24.9 inches), 00-size guitar with a sloped shoulder and 14 frets clear of the body (20 frets total). Details such as open-back tuners with cream plastic buttons and a modified "V" profile neck lend the guitar a very vintage feel and look, while the instrument has a very rich, full-bodied tone with plenty of complex overtones and dynamics. It's robust when strummed and clear as a bell when fingerpicked, and overall spartan appointments make for a very appealing guitar.

Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul Custom VOS Electric Guitar Pelham Blue
Throughout the Gibson has issued Les Paul Customs in a paint box worth of colors (like those crazy pastels of the 1980s—fuschia, anyone?). We’re simply in heaven over this heavenly Gibson Custom Les Paul Custom finished in heavenly Pelham Blue, and with VOS nickel hardware for a slightly oxidized, been-played-a-bit look.

Today’s Les Paul Custom is based on the model from the mid-1950s, but with several modern appointments. It is crafted with a hand-carved maple top fitted to a body made from a solid piece of mahogany with strategically routed holes to lessen the weight of the guitar, resulting in a Les Paul with enhanced acoustic qualities and improved resonance. The 24 ¾-inch scale length neck is also made from one solid piece of mahogany topped by a 22-fret richlite fingerboard outfitted with figured acrylic block inlays and given Gibson’s traditional rounded profile. The pickups are Gibson’s 490R in the neck position, which offers the tonal characteristics of the original PAFs, and the 498T in the bridge position, which swaps the 490R’s Alnico II magnet for an Alnico V, thus making it slightly hotter with emphasis on mid-ranges and highs. Other appointments include Gibson’s legendary Nashville Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece, metal tulip tuners, multi-ply white and black binding on both the top and back, gold hardware and a 1 11/16” nut width.

Rick Turner Model 1 LBU-C Electric Guitar
Rick Turner is a highly regarded West Coast luthier whose innovations include making low-impedance pickups that were combined with a preamp to create a wider frequency response and a richer, more natural tone. Based on that formula, he helped found Alembic and made basses and guitars for musicians like John Entwistle and John Paul Jones. When he struck out on his own, his first design was the Model 1 guitar, which was quickly embraced by Lindsey Buckingham and today includes John Mayer as one of its users.

The Turner Model 1 LBU-C guitar, which we have here at the Zoo, has all the unique design elements of the original Model 1. Aside from its gorgeous appearance, the guitar can excellently deliver a range of sounds; it can sound remarkably convincing as an acoustic guitar, while kicking in the preamp and volume will deliver a searing lead tone. Both Mayer and Buckingham have coaxed some great tonal variety from this instrument. Hearing is believing.
