The Music Zoo offers professional instrument setup, restrings, and repair. Are your strings feeling a little crusty? Action a bit high? Did you swing your guitar headfirst right into the bass amp onstage and break the headstock clean off? We can relate. We'll help you get your instrument back to top form.
Bass $39.99 + strings
Electric Guitar $49.99 + strings
Electric Guitar w/ Floyd $54.99 + strings
Restring $15.99 + strings
Restring Floyd Rose $19.99 + strings
A setup is something guitars and basses require on a regular basis; it keeps the instrument playing as it should and helps ensure a long, trouble-free life. When guitars or basses are neglected, the neck can excessively bow, the woods can become dry and brittle, and the electronics can get oxidized and scratchy. How often should you set up your instrument? It depends on how much you use it. A minimum would be once a year for something that sits in the case, but for a guitar that gets used every day, much more often. Some pro guitarists have their techs set the guitar on a weekly, even daily basis. If your guitar isn't playing "just right", it may be time for this service.
A setup involves an examination of the fretboard, the neck angle and truss rod adjustment, the bridge height and position, and the intonation of each string. Adjustments can be made to the neck and truss rod to bring the strings back into the proper alignment with the fretboard, and once the major adjustments are complete, fine tuning of each string's intonation is performed. The fretboard is cleaned and conditioned, and the frets are individually polished to remove grime and oxidation that can dull the strings' resonance. Naturally, the body and neck are cleaned and polished (unless you instruct us not to - we are respectful of an instrument's "mojo"). Finally, the electronics are inspected and cleaned to make sure the the knobs work quietly (no crackle when you use them) and the jack is in good working order. The "action", or height of the strings from the fretboard, makes a big difference in how the guitar feels and we will work to make sure it is set just how you like it.
We provide 100% free estimates on all repair work. Whether your amp is blown, your acoustic guitar has a crack, or your mixing board has an issue, we have some of the best techs in town. We can't provide estimates over the phone, unfortunately, so please be willing to drop your gear off for a short time while we take a look.
