Out Of The Case: Gibson ’69 Les Paul
Posted on by Walter Bryant
Back in late 1960 sales for Gibson’s Traditional bodied, single cut Les Paul started declining and with other brands like Fender seeing huge success with their light-weight, slimmer bodied, double cutaway guitars the Gibson Company decided to make a move and totally redesigned the Les Paul in 1961 to a much slimmer, double cut guitar design. This newly designed Les Paul Standard would later be known as the SG.
Towards the end of the 1960’s musicians had started using the single cut design Les Paul’s from the 1950s again and with some of the biggest names within the music scene being spotted playing these original Les Paul’s on stage or heard using them in the studio on their records, public demand was once again on the rise for these guitars. In 1968 Gibson re-introduced the Les Paul Standard and the rest is history!
In stock now at The Music Zoo we have a super clean, all original example of an early 1969 Les Paul Standard Goldtop!
