Everyone dreams of finding a vintage Strat that's been broken in to perfection over the course of nearly 60 years. This 1955 Ultimate Relic Stratocaster aims to capture the spirit of those vintage instruments!
We approached the Fender Custom Shop with an idea for the most beat-up, played-in Stratocaster we'd ever seen, and we wanted it to feel like it had been played every night for 50 years. We realized that we would have to take the relicing processes developed in the Custom Shop to their limits to produce this Ultimate Relic Stratocaster.
Masterbuilt by Custom Shop craftsman Jason Smith, this Strat features a classic Two-Tone Sunburst finish that's been aged for a beyond-played-in look and feel. The areas where buckle rash and pick wear are normally found are worn completely through to the Ash body. The neck gets the Relic treatment as well, with a comfortable soft "V" shape coupled with a modern style 9.5" radius fingerboard. All of the traditional Strat sounds are here as well, with three handwound Custom Shop '50s Strat single-coils wired to a five-way switch for full-bodied neck pickup sounds, quacky "in-between" tones, and biting treble leads.
