Ever since 1958, when Gibson introduced the first semi-hollowbody electric guitar, the timeless ES-335, the company’s engineers have been fine-tuning the concept of combining the classic look of a hollowbody with the performance of a solidbody. The CS-356 achieves that goal with a smaller-bodied instrument. It features a single piece mahogany body that is tonally carved to include the back, rims and center block from one piece of wood. Added to that are a figured top and richlite fretboard to give the guitar a classy look with plenty of functionality. The small body size is very comfortable to play on, the picking arm rests beautifully against the body. The ’57 Classic humbuckers sound great amplified while acoustically the guitar is a pleasure as well.
