The Story

Les Paul Custom Ebony 1969

This one gathered a crowd when it arrived at The Music Zoo! This is a 1969 Gibson Les Paul Custom in ebony, with uncovered humbuckers with black bobbins to match the black finish perfectly. The guitar has a 1-piece body, 3-piece neck with an ebony fretboard, block inlays, and no headstock volute.

This Custom is a vintage player with its original Fretless Wonder frets (which have wear to them). It has a T-Top neck humbucker with a Pat Number bridge pickup, changed knobs, jack plate and screws, and replaced period-correct tuners (with the screw holes enlarged to accommodate the new hardware). The pickup switch is worn and will pop out of the lead position with a light touch, however it sticks in place without popping into the middle when you wouldn't want it to. There is a pot date which reads 137-6929. The guitar has had absolutely no breaks and the finish blacklights correctly! This Custom not only looks but sounds fantastic, with tons of tone and visual vibe for days.

We are leaving the Fretless wonder frets and pickup switch as they are, for the next owner of the guitar to decide what to do with if you’d like to play it as it comes, or update it with some larger frets – but we think the low profile of these is really fun and gives you a sense of what guitar playing was like back when the guitar was built! It includes a Gibson protector hardshell case.
