The Story

Custom Shop 1917 00-40K Recreation Highly Flamed Koa

This is a very special guitar we've teamed up with the Martin Custom Shop to create...or should we say, recreate. A while back, The Music Zoo acquired a 1917 Martin 00-40 from the original owners family, which was extremely unique and rare in that it featured figured koa back and sides, making it an 00-40K. After research was done, it was apparent that Martin made as few as five 00-40K models. It was originally a Hawaiian-style guitar with fan bracing, which is how it arrived to us. We sent the guitar off to Martin for a conversion to become a fingerstyle guitar along with all of the necessary restoration...but we also took the time and steps to remake the guitar as a modern-day Custom Shop instrument! The result is nothing short of incredible. The guitar features its signature highly flamed koa back and sides with a solid sitka spruce top and modern spruce scalloped 1/4" bracing with a genuine mahogany neck. The cosmetics are the same as the original with Style 42 snowflake inlays and an abalone top inlay. The tone is complex and deep, and as with all koa guitars as the hours of play time accumulate, the tone will bloom as the koa opens up. If it sounds this good at the start, we can't imagine how good it'll be after a year or two. Make this incredible Martin guitar yours fast, we don't think it will last very long at all.

Includes: Hardshell Case and Paperwork
