Product Description

Martin Size 1 De Goni Authentic 1843 Guitar

This very special Martin is the Size 1 De Goni Authentic 1843 guitar! This instrument celebrates the very first Martin Size 1 model, as well as the earliest X-braced guitar ever documented. The backstory is that in 1843, C.F. Martin built a special X-braced guitar for Madame Delores N. de Goñi after entertaining her in his home. Made De Goni was at the time the finest professional guitar soloist of her time, and between 1841 and 1892 was quite popular - and she loved Martin guitars! You could even say that this is one of the first examples of guitar endorsees ever! This replica of that moment in guitar history is true to the original right down to the torn paper label. The guitar has some light wear to the body – the bridge is currently lightly cracked and would need to be replaced – and there are some lacquer checking marks around the metal nut. The original coffin case is included with this special Martin instrument.
