This MIcro-Frets Spacetone is a '60s era guitar with a tone of vibe - these don't receive enough attention! They boast several "ahead-of-their-time" features, including an offset G string "nut saddle", similar to the Buzz Feiten tuning system or even the LSR Roller nut - made decades later. Some of their early guitars even had built in FM transmitters! The unique Calibrato system also offered the ability to adjust individual string tensions for superior intonation, (sounds a lot like a Steinberger Transtrem!) , and you can even adjust the pitch of the string bends!
This Spacetone is a "Stage 2" model, as it used 2 hollow pieces of maple glued together in a sandwich construction. It's loaded with the original Bill Lawrence P-90 flavored pickups, which sound great - and the "elliptical" profile maple neck is like nothing you've felt before, yet at the same time familiar and extremely comfortable. It's topped with a beautiful Brazilian rosewood fingerboard with multiple pearl dot inlays, and the aforementioned "Micro-Nut". The Calibrato system is present, as well as a dual-level pickguard with volume, tone, pickup switch, and "series-parallel" switch. Other nice cosmetic touches include a double-bound body and a wood trem arm cap.
This guitar is in good shape for it's age, it does show some normal signs of use including dings, scratches, and finish wear, and a repaired crack on the back of the headstock but no other structural or hardware issues. It's a necessary piece for any collector, but it's also a highly playable and great sounding guitar!
