This is a guitar that could sure tell a story or two. This is a '91 Ibanez 540P model made at the LA Custom Shop for Alex Skolnick, one of our favorite guitar players at the Zoo. The guitar was not only owned by Alex, but used for the recording of the 1992 Testament album “The Ritual” and used on the first tour Alex did with Stu Hamm in the ‘90s. The guitar was customized for Alex with two humbuckers and a single-coil in the middle, two Fender knobs, a clear pickguard, and 5-way toggle switch. The middle toggle is only activated when the push/pull tone pot is in the ‘up’ position.
The guitar has wear to it as you’d expect from a guitar that’s been taken on the road and used for over twenty years. There are small dings and dents throughout the body, mostly near the bridge sides, and horns. There’s a small scuff in the neck, treble side around the 1st fret. It’s a great player with lots of vibe and a unique look to other Ibanez body styles, and is currently set up for E-flat tuning, just like Alex used in Testament. It has an autographed headstock, and includes Backstage Auction paperwork with a Certificate of Authenticity from the auction and an autographed 8x10 picture.
