This guitar is a rare, preowned Gibson Custom Shop 20th Anniversary '59 Les Paul Standard reissue in excellent condition. Made in 2013, this guitar celebrates the 20th anniversary of the original '59 R9 reissue Les Paul Standard, and it features finishing by Tom Murphy, who created the finish on the original R9s back in 1993. This guitar was sprayed the very same method used by Murphy in on the originals. Only 100 of these guitars were made and the flame maple tops were hand-picked by Murphy and Edwin Wilson. The 1993 originals are rare and very sought after. Not many come available on the market. This particular example plays wonderfully and has a very nice rounded '59 neck profile and exceptional tone. It's a pretty exact recreation of the original 1993 R9. Weight is 8 pounds, 12 ounces on this one with a thinly figured flame top that has lots of interesting flicker. The pickguard has the outline of the original Custom Shop sticker (included in the case) on it, it's not quite visible from more than a few inches away, and like all Les Paul pickguards, it's easily interchangeable for a fresh one!
