You can stare at it or you can play it; either way it's a beautful experience. This 12-fret guitar is custom built by Martin using highly figured koa on the top, back, and sides of the body. The neck is mahogany with an ebony fretboard and a slotted headstock. The guitar has 20 frets total, 12 of which are clear of the body. Aesthetically, this guitar is stunning with its minimal appointments; the koa's spectacular grain patterns are the flashiest aspect here. The soundhole rosette is a simple herringbone surrounded by two rings of black and white fiber, and the rosewood binding is matched with black and white fiber purfling. Indeed, the ebony parts work with the koa's deep brown shade to create a very classy guitar. Sonically, the 12-fret body has the bridge moved farther back and the result is a very warm, sweet tone with very good projection and detail across the frequencies. Fingerpickers and flatpickers alike will love what they hear. Modeled after an early 30's style 21 guitar, this piece features rosewood binding, the short diamond inlay pattern, belly bridge and rounded headstock slots. We kept the Brazilian headplate for good measure and swapped the body woods for highly figured Koa that we picked ourselves at the factory earlier this year.
