Both Vintage and Modern-Inspired Private Stock Guitars Being Built for The Music Zoo!
This last week, The Music Zoo's own Jordan Usatch and Garrett Hess took a trip down to the Paul Reed Smith factory in Stevensville, Maryland to pick some wood, choose some cool finish options...and let's face it - eat crab cakes. We spec'd out nine Private Stock guitars and two runs of Wood Library guitars that we are incredibly excited about!
These runs will start to arrive at The Music Zoo towards the end of 2020, but we'd like to show off some photos of the raw wood and spec details now! Of course, if you see a build you're interested in, contact our expert Sales Team to make sure your name is on what you like when it comes in!
PRS Private Stock Custom 22 in Slate Blue Glow with Flame Maple Top - Quote 8566
This will end up being a Custom 22 with a customized Slate Blue finish, which is inspired by the black/blue dial of a Patek Phillipe Nautilus 5711. It will have with a doghair finish on the back to continue the blue theme, with a new blue swirl inlay material that the Private Stock builders have been working on that looks fantastic.
PRS Private Stock Custom 24 in Deep Red with Quilt Maple Top - Quote 8567
This is the wood set of a Custom 24 which will have a deep red stained top, with a swamp ash back and neck finished in white with black grain filler. Can you think of a famous pair of high top sneakers with a red, black and white colorway? Yeah, that's what we're shooting for!
PRS Private Stock Custom 24 in Charcoal Top and Sage Green Quote 8568
This is another horology inspired built. A Custom 24 with a Charcoal top and Sage Green finished on a flame maple back cap and neck. This guitar was inspired by a 1968 Vintage Rolex Submariner 5513 which we came across when drooling for watches online. With a lightly faded black dial and the green of the nylon band it was pictured with, we knew this would translate into a very interesting looking guitar.
PRS Private Stock Pauls Guitar in Laguna Glow Quote 8569
We're huge fans of the versatility that a PRS Paul's Guitar can bring to the table, so why not pick an amazing top and give it one of the most unique finishes PRS has ever made? Laguna Glow! This one will have a matching colored flame maple neck.
PRS Private Stock Vela Roasted Flame Maple Quote 8570
The Vela is one of our favorite PRS body styles. Since it's such a modern shape, we figured we would go a modern route by roasting some maple for the top and neck, while giving it a swamp ash body and a natural finish to show off the wood! Note, that this wood is pre-roast process and will be much darker in the end result!
PRS Private Stock Custom 24 PRS Book Pg. 31 Quote 8571
While reading The PRS Guitar Book by Dave Burrluck in preparation for the trip, we decided to pay ode to the history of the company by re-building some vintage pieces as pictured in the book! This will be an ode to the Custom 24 as shown on Page 31, albeit with Bird inlays and a Brazilian Rosewood fretboard!
PRS Private Stock Custom 24 PRS Book Pg. 31 Quote 8572
Here is a Custom 24 as pictured in the PRS Book on page 47, which we found an amazing cedar top for, and it will be outfitted with a Brazilian Rosewood fretboard!
PRS Private Stock Santana Retro Page 31 Quote 8573
If you're going to pay ode to PRS' history, you can't leave out how important the Santana model is! This is going to be a Santana Retro modeled after Page 31, with a curly maple top, figured mahogany back and Brazilian Rosewood fretboard. A volume with two on/off toggle switches will be the controls on this instrument.
PRS Private Stock Santana Retro 1-Piece Figured Mahogany Page 15 Quote 8574
Simple, but just can't be beat! This guitar will be built as a Santana Retro with a single-piece figured mahogany body and Brazilian Rosewood fretboard, just as we saw on Page 18 of the book, with a deeper than usual top-carve and Volume, 5-way rotary switch. The deep carve top shows just how handmade the original guitars were, when it was Paul himself making the guitars for Carlos! Vintage Santana vibes for sure!
