Gibson Custom Shop 1979 Kirk Hammett Flying V: Product Review and Video Demo Playthrough
An exact replica of the '79 V used on the first five Metallica records, expertly aged by the Murphy Lab!
It's hard to imagine a time in which one of the biggest bands in the world wasn't at the point there were at now - but in the early '80s Metallica was still a band earning their place in Metal royalty. Fueling Kirk Hammetts early leads and riffs was his 1979 Gibson Flying V- his first Gibson that led him down the path of owning many more in the future. Kirk uses the original guitar to this day. While it's currently loaded with his signature EMG pickups; this is the guitar as it originally was with two uncovered T-Type humbuckers.
Each guitar was hand-aged by the talented folks at the Murphy Lab to recreate every ding and dent on the guitar, as well as the black tape on the sides and back of the body that are just like on the original. A unique feature on this V is the recreated custom aftermarket bridge just like the guitar had in 1979.
