Founded in Japan in 1975 by Hisatake Shibuya, the Electric Sound Products company began as a manufacturer of replacement guitar parts, and a reputable one at that for its high quality products! Soon after, ESP began its foray into the production of full instruments under the brand names Navigator, Edwards, and Grassroots. As its reputation of the quality instruments grew, touring musicians traveling through Japan often visited the headquarters to pick up their own instrument, two of the earliest artists associated with ESP are George Lynch of Dokken and Ronnie Wood of The Rolling Stones – each who still play their signature instruments with the company today!

Expansion to the US market came in the 1980s, with headquarters being moved throughout the States from New York to Los Angeles, even having a spot on the world-famous Music Row of 48th Street in New York City. During this time – ESPs influence in Heavy Metal and Hard Rock music became hard to be overstated. The artist roster at ESP was and still is full of heavy hitters; James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett of Metallica, Page Hamilton of Helmet, Jeff Hanneman of Slayer, Alexi Laiho of Children of Bodom, Stephen Carpenter of Deftones, Alex Skolnick, Willie Adler of Lamb of God, and tons of other influential Metal musicians play ESP guitars.

In the mid 1990s, ESP expanded to LTD Guitars which are import models built in China, Korea, Vietnam and Indonesia. The LTD line gives players of all levels, be it beginner or professional ESP’s looks and tones at an affordable price, and has helped the company grow to be one of the most popular electric guitar brands around! The current production line of Made in Japan guitars are known as ESP E-II instruments, made in the ESP factory by their top luthiers, E-IIs have fantastic playability, and the looks that ESP has a reputation for.

Whether you want the single-cut classic looks of an Eclipse, the double-horned danger of a Viper, the slightly offset Horizon or Horizon II shape, the Floyd Rose wizardry of a George Lynch Kamikaze, or the low-end chunk of a Stephen Carpenter 8-string – there is an ESP or LTD guitar for you, and they can all be found at The Music Zoo!
