Takamine At The Music Zoo
The Music Zoo is an Authorized Takamine Dealer! Shop for your Takamine Guitar on our site now, or visit our showroom on Long Island, New York! From its humble beginnings as a family-run guitar shop at the foot of Mount Takamine in the central Japanese town of Sakashita, Takamine has grown into a worldwide presence producing some of the finest acoustic guitars we carry!
The company took its namesake from the mountain in 1962, naming itself Takamine Gakki Ltd. By 1968, Takamine grew to 60 employees and being a leading builder of classical instruments and mandolins. Takamine was one of the first companies to build an acoustic-electric guitar, with the development of the under-saddle Palathetic pickup in 1978, and in 1979 introduces its first acoustic-electric guitar with the PT-007S.
Some qualities that make Takamine guitars unique are their asymmetrical neck profile, which is thinner on the bass side to fit the natural shape of your hand – letting you work easier and decreasing hand fatigue. Many Pro Series guitars feature the Takamine Pinless Bridge, which make string changes a breeze without letting you lose those small pins! There’s also a split-saddle design to improve acoustic intonation, giving the B and E strings their own specially placed saddle to sit on!
Takamine guitars have been embraced by players of all genres, but especially Country players such as Garth Brooks, Kenny Chesney, Toby Keith, as well as Rock players such as Jon Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, Nils Lofgren, and Eagles guitarists Glen Frey and Don Henley.
