A Limited Edition "Dead Spec" version of the PRS John Mayer Silver Sky signature guitar is now available for pre-order!
Introducing the new and limited edition "Dead Spec" Silver Sky from PRS. Created in collaboration with John Mayer for his final voyage on the last Dead & Co. tour. It's a modified Silver Sky that pays homage to Jerry Garcia's iconic Alligator guitar tones with its significant spec changes! Only 1000 units of these guitars will be made available. What makes the Dead Spec different than a regular Silver Sky?
The foundation of this Limited Edition Silver Sky is a lightweight Swamp Ash Body, as opposed to Alder - which was used in previous versions of the PRS Silver Sky. It has been finished in a beautiful Moc Sand Satin Nitro that is super thin and strikingly sits into the ash wood grain.
It also features an upgraded bridge - a modified PRS patended Gen III Tremolo that's been screwed to the body, effectively rendering it a string through hardtail bridge. They kept the tremelo's brass block in the mix to add musical warmth to the guitar. At the other end of the strings are a brass nut and string retainer bar, which provided added resonance and shining tones.
The PRS Silver Sky "Dead Spec's" most notable feature? A brass plate Alembic Blaster preamp can be used as a straight boost, but also has an internal pot that allows player 3db-14db of gain to the guitar when turned on. This provides the player an added punch while maintaining clarity and crisp note separation, all while compensating for the capacitance that comes with long stage cables as well. This circuit is bypassed in the off position, of course!
