As the largest musical instrument manufacturer in the world, you can be sure that Yamaha makes an excellent guitar, be it electric or acoustic. Founded in 1887 as a manufacturer of pianos, Yamaha as a company eventually grew to producing its first guitars in the 1940s, gaining market share in the 1960s with their exported Classical nylon string guitars and later in the decade with their first steel-string guitars. Yamaha FG guitars of the 1960s and 70s were immensely popular, and remain a coveted yet still affordable acoustic to this day!
Yamaha electric guitars grew popular around the world through Carlos Santana and his custom SG-175, which he gave feedback to the company on to grow into the SG-2000, complete with its neck-through construction, T-Cross system of mahogany wings and a brass sustain plate mounted to the body which the bridge is attached to. Playing a SG-2000 is no joke! These guitars are heavy duty. Yamaha SGs were used by pros such as Bob Marley, Brian Robertson of Thin Lizzy, Paul Berrere of Jethro Tull, Mick Jones in Foreigner, and Post-Punk guitarists like John McGeoch of Siouxsee and the Banshees and Paul Reynolds of Flock of Seagulls.
Yamaha today produces many series of instruments that range from being the very first guitar you’ll ever pick up, to the guitar you’ll reach for when you’re heading onstage at stadiums, and The Music Zoo is proud to carry them all! Whether you’re looking for a rock-solid Yamaha BB Bass, the semi-hollow chime of an SA2200, or the contemporary tones of a Revstar - we have them all!
